August 2-7, 2001

Today we drove from Winnemucca, NV all the way through Sacramento, CA to Big Sur.  We totally lucked out and got a spot to camp at Los Padres National Forest.  It is a beautiful spot overlooking the Pacific Ocean.  It is the first scene on our cross country video tapes since we just bought the camcorder today!

We spent 5 days with Dad's great uncle, Don Crain.  Don is my great-grandmother, Dorothy Crain's brother!  He was born in 1898 and grew up in Pulaski, IL.  Right now he is 103 years old!

Uncle Don was pleasantly surprised to see our pictures of Pulaski Cemetery and happy to learn that we put flowers on his parents' graves.

He was shocked to learn that his sister had applied for and been accepted into the Daughters of the American Revolution under FIVE different ancestors!

Boy, he is lucky to have lived in such a beautiful town.  I wish I lived across from this…..the beautiful Pacific Ocean.  The sunsets were incredible to watch.

On the left you can make out Morro Rock in the background.  Uncle Don lived for many years at Silver City Motor Home Park in Morro Bay before moving to Cayucos.
