July 17, 2001 Ogallala, Nebraska
After driving through Iowa, tonight we stopped in Oglala, Nebraska & went to dinner & a show at Front Street Steakhouse and Crystal Palace Saloon in famous Ogallala, Nebraska. The show was a shoot out and an old style show of dancing girls. Normally, I don't think my mom would have let me watch the shoot out but since it really was this way in America's "wild west" she let me attend. It was a blast. It was suddenly 1875! I am glad I'll never have to duel with anyone!!
I even got deputized. It was an interesting place. Not so long ago, Front Street was "hoe-down headquarters" for Texas cattle drivers. We left after the "shootout" and drove north to Martin, South Dakota, where the mosquitoes were…..unbelievable (..and that says a lot coming from a Maine native)!
